Meet the Torchlight Team

Nearly two decades ago, Gregg Keele started working with divorcees to overcome their financial fear as Smarter Divorce Solutions. Since the beginning we’ve helped divide hundreds of millions of dollars in marital property. Our goal has been to help people by putting good work and education into the world.

We’ve now realized those same tools we’ve used for decades apply to more than just divorces. Our forecasting tools deliver the same high-level results to people who have suffered an injury and may need help understanding the financial ramifications of the changes in their lives. Or worse, those who have lost a loved one and may need to replace their lost income over a lifetime.

We don’t charge a fee for analyzing settlement proposals and forecasting income or growth of settlements. Whether it’s a life-changing case valuation or a small soft tissue injury, we help that client out through education and understanding of their financial situation.

Gregg Keele

Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA™), CFP CRPC®, Managing Partner

Gregg is super-awesome. He’s really money-smart and can understand graphs and charts. He likes fishing, puppies, kids and all sorts of other happy things. You should really talk to him about what the difference is between a $100,000 settlement and a $1,000,000 settlement. Hint: it’s not $900,000.

The Brass Tacks

I have a passion for helping others find stability and happiness. Many of the folks I work with have suffered the loss of a loved one, their spouse, or a marriage. I do this because helping people find a better life is work worth doing.  I have over 25 years’ experience as a financial advisor. I’ve earned numerous awards and honors, been on Bloomberg Live, co-authored a book titled “Leading Advisor,” hosted local radio talk shows and regularly teach continuing education courses to local attorneys.

The Fun Stuff

I enjoy spending time with my wife Jennifer and my children Dalton and Gigi, family and friends, traveling, boating, fishing and reading.

Nate Hacker

J.D., Registered Domestic Relations Mediator, CDFA™

This is Nate. To be blunt, we can’t really articulate the full extent of what Nate does here, but he’s always pretty busy doing something or talking to somebody about something. At any rate, he came up with the idea for Torchlight Resolutions, so if it doesn’t pan out, blame him. But, we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

The Brass Tacks

I particularly enjoy helping people, which is what attracted me to law in the first place. I have nearly 20 years’ experience as a lawyer which has shown me that education of litigants often leads to more amicable results. My work now as a mediator and CDFA is to help educate parties in the decisions they’re making which helps reduce the conflict and helps keep people from reaching court.

The Fun Stuff

I enjoy watching my kids, Story and Penn, play soccer for Hoosier F.C. and spending time with my wife Courtney. I am also a licensed small-sided soccer (less than 11 players on the field) referee. In my spare time, when I can find it, I like to take on home improvement projects and workout. I am also in the process of working through the restoration of a 1969 Mustang.

Phil Christner

Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA™), CFP®, CLTC® , Financial Advisor

This is Phil; Phil “Excel” Christner. Spreadsheets are his middle name.  He can analyze your settlement options while chasing his kids around the yard and arguing with his wife over the current bond market.  Don’t doubt this guy’s knowledge in discussing the client’s financial forecasting.

The Brass Tacks

I’ve worked in finance for over seventeen years with a goal of helping people reach their financial goals through personal finance planning and advice. Our team has helped thousands of individuals and families save and manage hundreds of millions of dollars for what matters to them.

I’ve particularly enjoyed gaining extensive experience in divorce financial planning, executive compensation and benefit strategies and tax planning strategies to help people maximize their hard work for the long term.

The Fun Stuff

I enjoy spending family time with my wife, Becca and our kids Emmett, Kellan and Campbell. We regularly go on hikes, play sports and travel as a family. You may be able to find us at various Butler sporting events as well.

Darcy Barker

Client Relationship Manager

It’s not officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, but we think Darcy may indeed actually know everything. If you need something,Darcy probably knows where it is and how to get it to you quick. As the professional cat herder of the Torchlight team, she’s always able to find time on a calendar to get a meeting in or work around an event.

The Brass Tacks

I’ve been in different aspects of the financial industry for over 25 years. I absolutely love the Client Relationship aspect of my position. I am always here to lend an ear when people need to talk or lend a hand when they need assistance. Our clients are what keep me going.

The Fun Stuff

I love spending time with friends and family — especially my son, Cody, and my dog, Lucy. I enjoy home improvement projects, gardening, and travel, although I don’t do enough of it! I get my love of travel from my dad who sailed solo from Antigua to Galveston, TX using only the wind. Apparently my dad listened to one too many Jimmy Buffet songs. The Coast Guard was only contacted once or twice. It’s fine, everything’s fine.

Josh Lee

Consultant

Josh is Torchlight’s in-house will reader, Gary Sinise doppelganger and gift advisor. If Santa knew Josh existed, he’d be very jealous. In all honesty, it’s a good thing he doesn’t know about Josh. Think of all the elves out of work! It’s hard finding a job these days as an elf outside of November and December. Not everyone has the charm of Buddy.

The Brass Tacks

Nate isn’t the only Juris Doctor we have at Torchlight. Ever since I earned my J.D. I’ve worked with large non-profits in their charitable giving departments and have practiced estate planning. I joined Torchlight to work out beneficial strategies for our clients to secure a legacy that means something.

The Fun Stuff

My wife Cassie and I hail from Zionsville. We have three kids in all, my oldest is at IU and my younger two, Knox and Nash, are more than enough to keep us busy. We’re always ready for an outdoor adventure whether it’s hiking or heading to the lake to tube behind the boat.

.

Aaron Austin

Consultant

Much like Harry Potter before he learns he’s a wizard, Aaron is kept in a cupboard under the stairs. Okay, in all actuality he’s in a dimly lit back office, next to the stairs. When we’re trying to sort through some complex trades based on statements, Aaron is truly a wizard. We’re not saying he can recreate everything that has happened in an account, but we’re also not saying he can’t.

The Brass Tacks

Hey, my office is not dimly lit! I do love what I do though. When it comes to the buying and selling of assets in a case, I find that I can really help everyone understand the course of assets. I enjoy lending a helping hand to people who are going through a rough time.

The Fun Stuff

I have a job I love, a boat that floats and a wife that loves me. What more could a man want? Maybe some tacos and a beer.

.

Susan Talbot

Administrative Assistant

Susan is our gatekeeper. That might sound intimidating in a Ghostbusters sort of way, but in all reality, Susan is the most accommodating gatekeeper you’ll ever meet. When you come in, she’ll probably try to ward you off by getting you a drink, making sure you’re comfortable, and making sure that your Wi-Fi is all set up. If that doesn’t work, she may resort to changing the TV channel to something you want to watch. Make sure you get out before she offers to wash your car.

The Brass Tacks

My favorite part of the job is meeting interesting people every day. I enjoy helping our clients feel more comfortable and try to make their experience in our office a positive one. I have more than 20 years of experience as an Administrative Assistant and Office Coordinator and have worked with children as a Reading Instructional Assistant in Zionsville.

The Fun Stuff

I am from Long Island, NY originally, but I have lived in Indiana since 2003. In my free time I enjoy visiting my daughter Kristine and 20-month-old grandson Joaquin in Dallas, and my sister in New Jersey. My son Brian and I live in the downtown Carmel area, close to the Arts & Design District. On weekends you might find me walking on the Monon trail or enjoying a music concert.

.

Ben Hoeing

Ben really is far more interesting than his bio would make you think. He wanted us to talk about how he loves buying stocks and pick SBUX at 13 years old and began trading options at 18. And, if you have option strategies, he’d love to regale you with tales of covered calls and put strategies… blah blah blah… What Ben won’t tell you is that if you get lost in the wilderness Ben is probably likely to find you before a wild animal mauls you. Handy if you’re prone to getting lost in one of our nation’s massive national parks.

The Brass Tacks
I came to Torchlight from a national firm. I enjoy working with clients, getting to know their needs and finding creative ways to use various strategies to analyze the potential of a portfolio. I really want to talk about options strategies here, but they won’t let me.
The Fun Stuff
When I am not trying to engage co-workers in discussions of boxed spreads, I like to go hiking. I really am more likely to find you than Nate Hacker is… Not sure if I’d beat a mountain lion to you in time, but I’d have fun looking. I have hiked Glacier National Park and Yellowstone (not the TV show, the park). When I am not out in the wilderness, I like to play golf and tennis, and root for the Colts, Pacers and Hoosiers.
